Speech Therapy

What is Speech and Language Therapy?

Speech and language therapy is a therapeutic intervention that is implemented by a Speech and Language Therapist (SLT). SLTs are professionals who work with children, teens and adults in developing their speech, communication, social and swallowing skills.

SLTs work directly with clients, families and carers to support development of these skills.

  • Apraxia – difficulty planning and coordinating the movements needed to make speech sounds
  • Fluency – stuttering
  • Voice – problems with the way the voice sounds, such as hoarseness
  • Language Disorders

  • Expressive Language – difficulty using language
  • Pragmatic Language – social communication; the way we use language to interact with one another
